A Princess of Heart? Part 5 (Sora X Reader)

Kairi is beautiful even when the darkness has corroded her heart. Her long red hair cascades down her back in waves. Her piercing blue eyes- although holding darkness- are bright and clear. She is clad in black from head to toe and her face is shadowed from a hood. But even in the darkness surrounding her, you can see the sneer on her face.

Riku stands beside her and he looks nothing like the boy you knew. He is also wearing all black and sports the same cloak and hood that Kairi does. His bright blue eyes are narrowed to slits as he stares at you. A cruel smile lights up his face. You can feel the darkness radiating off of both of them.

Sora holds your hand tight in his own. In his other hand, his keyblade glimmers. Although it is beautiful, you can see how deadly it truly is. You haven't been able to summon your keyblade just yet and the more time that passes the more you think that it will never happen.

Donald and Goofy stand to your right. Donald has his staff stretched out in front of him, ready to attack at a moments notice. Goofy holds his shield in both hands, a determined look on his face. You are proud of both of them for helping you get this far. You can only hope that you survive to be able to tell them thank you.

"The darkness is strong," Kairi calls out. She laughs. "You do not stand a chance against us."

Sora slashes the air with his keyblade. "Light always cancels out the darkness! You of all people should know that!"

Kairi walks toward the group. You can't help but notice that the darkness follows her. She is the one that controls the heartless. She is also controlling your best friend. Hate fills your chest and you begin to shake with it. The only thing you can think about is stopping Kairi. Not only is she controlling Riku, but she is ripping apart other worlds and hurting people. She has to be stopped.

Kairi lifts her clenched hands high into the air. Her eyes burn bright with power. "Do you see the light?" she asks to the sky. "It must be banished! Darkness, I call on you. Defeat Sora, Donald, and Goofy. And when they are gone, take _________'s light!"

Before you are the others can react, the darkness around Kairi begins to form into a large mass. The wind picks up and you can barely keep your feet on the ground. To your horror, Kairi opens her mouth and the darkness slides down her throat.

"No!" Sora screams, running forward with his keyblade. Goofy and Donald immediately follow suit and dash toward Kairi. Sora is almost upon her when Riku jumps into action. He collides with Sora and they tumble to the ground. It is then that you notice that Riku has summoned a keyblade. You can hear the scrap of metal as their keyblades clash.

"Please, I need you," you say to your own keyblade. "Come forward!" You look at your hand but the keyblade does not appear and you cry out in frustration. At the same moment, Kairi has finished with her sinister plans and jerks her head to look at you. When her eyes meet yours, she smiles wickedly and begins to make her way to you.

Donald appears at your side. Quacking loudly, he lifts his staff high and sends a torrent of lightning to Kairi. With the flick of her hand, the lightning changes direction and goes flying into the darkness. She laughs.

"__________! You've got to summon your keyblade!" Goofy says out of nowhere. "It seems like only a keyblade can stop her!"

"I know!" you say, hysteria rising in you. You try to call out to your keyblade and even try relaxing your body but nothing works. Donald and Goofy hang their heads in shame for a few seconds before lifting them and focusing on Kairi.

Meanwhile, Sora has managed to get the surprise on Riku, who knows lays on the ground and doesn't look like he will be getting up anytime soon. He doesn't waste any time; he lunges for Kairi. But she is expecting it and uses some of her power to launch him into the air. He tumbles through the air at least ten feet and lands in front of us with a loud grunt.

"She's... too strong," Sora breathes out. "________... run!"

But you do not move. There is no way that you will leave him and the others behind. They deserve more than that. You take a deep breath and, without saying a word, rush toward Kairi. For a second, she is caught by surprise. But she shakes it off and her eyes narrow at you as she charges forward, her keyblade drawn high.

You collide with her in a frenzy of arms and legs and grunts. The two of you fall to the ground and she gets the upper hand. She leans over you with a wicked gleam in her eyes. You do not understand how the girl on the cave wall could become this girl in front of you.

"NO!" Sora screams and you can see him and the others running toward you out of the corner of your eye. But you focus on Kairi, because she has lifted her keyblade into the air. She is going to strike you down. When she sends it hurling to your chest, you lift your arms in an attempt to protect your stomach and chest.

Then it happens. In a burst of light, your hand is no longer empty. You can feel the weight of your keyblade as it clashes with Kairi's. Kairi lunges back a few inches and screams before thrusting her keyblade once more. You manage to block her attack at just the right moment and use all your strength to push back. Because she was not expecting it, you manage to throw her off of you. In a second, you are on top of her with your keyblade to her throat.

"How..." Kairi trails off. There is a confused and almost sad look on her face, but then her features harden. "Riku! Now!"

In the corner of your eye, you see Riku pull himself from the ground and come toward Sora with unveiled fury. He slams into Sora from the side with his keyblade high in the air. Riku jabs it down on the unaware Sora and strikes him in the chest. Sora crumbles to the ground.

"Sora!" you cry out in agony. Catching you off guard, Kairi jabs an elbow into your chest and shoves you off of her. Before you can even blink, the tides have changed and she has her keyblade pressed against your throat.

Donald and Goofy are fighting Riku and there is no way that they can help you. Even though you can see your death in Kairi's eyes, you cannot help but think of Sora and if he is okay. He has not moved from the ground.

"You should have never been born," Kairi hisses. She leans in close to you and you can feel her cool breath on your cheeks. "Sora was mine and you stole him from me. Now I've stolen Riku from you."

Everything that happens next is a blur for you. One moment Kairi lifts her arms high to stab you with her keyblade and the next she is being sent whirling through the air. She hits the ground hard and you see her clutch her arm. Confusion settles on your face until you see who has saved your life.

Maleficent.

She strides toward you with a determined look on her face. Her cloak floats in the air as she walks. You scramble yourself up from the ground when she gets to you and she looks you in the eye.

"You will not stop me," she says, searching your face.

You shake your head. "No."

She turns away from you and focuses on Kairi. You whirl around and search for Sora. When you find him still lying motionless on the ground, you run to him. You collapse onto your knees when you reach him. He is laying on his side and you pull him so that he lays on his back. His eyes are closed.

"Sora?" you say, tears streaking down your face. "Please..."

But his chest is not moving. You drop your head onto his stomach and begin to sob. You do not know what to do- all you know is that your heart is breaking in half for the boy who has changed your life forever. You don't even glance up when Donald and Goofy knock out Riku and race over there to you and Sora.

"Oh no," Donald cries.

"Not Sora!" Goofy wails.

You press your head deeper and hold back another sob. The tears are flowing effortless now and you can't seem to make them stop. You don't know if you will ever be able to make them stop. There is a grief so strong inside you that you want to crumble into a million pieces. You don't want to fight it. The boy that saved your life is gone. You failed him.

"You fools," Maleficent says. "_______ can save him."

You look up. "What?"

Maleficent looks at you like you are a bug underneath her stilettos. "Use your keyblade. Save the insolent fool, you idiot!"

You pick up your keyblade from the ground and balance it in your hands. You do not have to ask what to do next. Suddenly you know what to do. You close your eyes and a bright light explodes behind your eyelids. When you open them, the end of your keyblade is glowing with light. Without thinking, you touch it to Sora's chest.

Light consumes everything for a few seconds. You press a hand to your eyes in an attempt to protect them, but the light is so strong that you have to turn away. You hear Donald and Goofy scramble off the ground and run toward safety. But you stay. And just like that, the light vanishes. You look down at Sora eagerly, hope blossoming in your chest. Please... wake up.

Sora opens his eyes.

You fall onto him and bring your arms around him. He gives a small "huh" and wraps his arms tight around you. Pure happiness feels your body as you listen to the bump of his heart. He is here with you.

He is safe.

"Sora..." you whisper into his neck. "I'm so glad you're okay."

"Wha- what happened?" he says, but he just tightens his grip on you. Both of you revel in each other's embrace. You can hardly hear Goofy and Donald saying "hooray" at Sora's resurrection. All you can think about is that Sora is safe.

"Ummm, _________? It's Riku..." Goofy says.

You lift up and Sora lets go of you. Shame fills your body. In all that has just happened, you have forgotten about Riku. You search the area for him and do not find him anywhere. Panic fills your gut when you see that Kairi and Riku are nowhere to be found.

"Where are they?" you demand.

Maleficent laughs wickedly. "The insolent fools ran immediately after I took Kairi's keyblade." She marvels the keyblade in her hand. "They are weak now. You will not see them for a long time."

"But... Riku... I have to save him from the darkness!" you say, tears already threatening to spill from your eyes. "If I don't..."

You feel a hand lay on your shoulder and turn to find that Sora is beside you. There is a sad look in his blue eyes. You want to turn away from him but you don't. You are rooted to the spot, to his stare. "I'm sorry, ___________." The hand on your shoulder tightens. "There is no hope for him now. At least nothing that we can do about it. He's going to have to fight the darkness inside him. We can only hope that he splits from Kairi or he'll just continue to be corrupted."

"There was weakness inside him," Maleficent adds. "Until he extracts it from himself there is no use for you to try to find him. He will not change until he is ready to fight the darkness inside himself. I assume that the love he has for you drove him to madness."

You think of the boy that spent all his time with you on Destiny Islands. You think of how he smiled so softly at you. The way he was always there for you whenever you needed him. He was a constant person in your life, a constant friend. Now that you think about it, maybe he always wanted more. It becomes clear to you right then that maybe the softness in his eyes wasn't just brotherly love but adoration. You think to all the instances when he got jealous if you talked to another guy or when you mentioned someone else. You think of the fruit he gave you for your birthday and the way that he said the two of you would always be connected. Was it possible that he had always been in love with you?

"I don't love him like that," you say softly. "I've always cared about him as my best friend. Not as... not as someone that I was in love with."

"Well," Goofy huffs. "It's not your fault."

Maleficent moves into your line of vision. There is a faraway look on her face. "I have much to do. It would be wise for the four of you to leave Twilight Town. You've all caused enough damage as it is." She seems to think about what she says, frowns, and adds quickly, "Not that I really care. If it were not for wanting Kairi's keyblade, I might have stood by her side today. However, there were different circumstances." She looks at each of us. "Do not consider me your friend." With that, she begins to walk away.

As you watch her go, you realize that one day you might have to fight her. There is no telling what she is going to do with Kairi's keyblade. But right now, Maleficent is not leaving as a foe. Everyone must feel the same because no one tries to attack her. All of you are weary and tired. The fight is over for now.

"Pence owes me a card game and he's going to pay up right now!" Donald quacks. "I'm going to find him and give him a run for his money!"

"A-hyuck! I'll go with you!" Goofy says.

The two friends look at Sora and you. Sora smiles and nods. Once you all agree to meet at the gummi ship in two hours, they scamper off to get into mischief.

Sora turns to look at you after they've left. Like usual, you lose your breath at the sight of his eyes. It's such an intense bright blue. You want to fall deep into them and never leave. Sora steps closer.

"What happened back there? One moment I was running toward you and the next moment there is nothing."

"Riku attacked you. I believe that he stabbed you with his keyblade." You swallow hard. Although Sora is alive now, it is still hard to talk about. "You were dead. And...well, I used my keyblade to bring you back to life."

"Really?" Sora says incredulously.

Your cheeks grow hot. "Yeah," you stammer. "That's what happened."

Sora grabs you hands. There is a soft look on his face. "The only way for a heart to be rejuvenated by a keyblade is if the keyblade wielder truly cares for the person." He is looking at you meaningfully now. "You care for me."

Before you can talk yourself out of it, you say, "I do."

Sora smiles and it brightens his entire face. You smile back, knowing that you don't want to be anywhere else but here with him. Now you realize why you never wanted to be with any other boy back on Destiny Islands- because there was someone just for you. And now you've found him.

When Sora's lips brush yours, you feel a spark ignite within you. Your heart feels like it will burst from your chest and when Sora wraps you into his arms you can feel how fast his heart beats. Suddenly everything else vanishes and all that exists is you and Sora. All you can think about is how soft his lips are and how much he takes your breath away. You wrap your arms around his neck and deepen the kiss until you feel like the two of you are one person, one soul.

A strange feeling passes through you and you know that Sora feels it to because he stiffens a little bit. But the feeling does not hurt. In fact, it feels glorious. Your body hums with light and strength. And then, out of nowhere, you can feel it. Your soul touching Sora's. Your souls collide in a frenzy of light and love. Fireworks explode in your mind and you can see nothing but Sora's memories as they play in your mind. Sora, when he was just a little boy. Sora, when he spent all his time with Kairi on Destiny Islands. You witness when Sora and Kairi are split up and when he meets Donald and Goofy for the first time. You see Sora's battle for the worlds and Kairi's sacrifice so that Sora can live again. The memories change, and then you see an older Sora fighting a group called Organization XII and the final showdown with Xemnas. You watch Sora go home to Destiny Islands and wander where Kairi is when you do not see her. And then, days later, you witness Sora's anguish when Kairi betrays him to go to the darkness. You watch the years pass by and by until the memories reach all the way back up to this moment and then...

Both you and Sora pull away at the same time. You feel weak and exhausted, but Sora is looking at you like he is seeing you for the very first time. There is a strange look in his eyes, as if he wants to pull you into his arms and never let you go.

"Do you know what just happened?" he says softly.

You shake your head. One minute the two of you were kissing and the next minute you were witnessing Sora's memories. His life.

"I knew when I met you that something was different. When I looked at you, I felt alive for the very first time. I felt different. Stronger." Sora moves close to you again, and opens his arms for you to crawl into. "What just happened was the binding of our souls to each other. We're soul mates, ________."

You can do nothing now but fall into his arms. You feel the strong connection between the two of you. You can feel your very soul lighting up when it nears Sora's and you cannot think of a time when you have been happier. He is everything you have ever wanted. Now you know what it feels like to have a deep love in your heart.

"When we finish our mission," Sora begins, "I'm going to take you far away from here. I'm going to show you all of the worlds. We're going to go on our own adventure. Just the two of us."

Your heart skips a beat at that. "I wouldn't want anything else."

You can feel Sora smile even as your head is buried in his shoulder. "But first we have to find a way to help Riku."

You pull away just enough so that both of you are looking at each other. "You're right. Riku can't do this on his own. We've got to help him."

Sora plants a kiss on your forehead. "Together?" he murmurs.

"Together."
